Google has announced its latest flagship smartphones, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. The new phones feature a number of upgrades over their predecessors, including a new Google Tensor G3 chip, improved cameras, and a more helpful and personal AI experience.

Design

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro feature a sleek and minimalist design with softer silhouettes and beautiful metal finishes. The Pixel 8 has a 6.2-inch Actua display, while the Pixel 8 Pro has a 6.7-inch Super Actua display. Both displays are brighter and more energy-efficient than the displays on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.

Camera

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro feature upgraded camera systems with new sensors and software improvements. The Pixel 8 Pro has a new main camera sensor that captures better photos and videos in low-light settings. It also has a new ultrawide camera sensor with a wider field of view and improved Macro Focus capabilities. The telephoto camera sensor on the Pixel 8 Pro has also been upgraded, and it now captures 56% more light and takes 10x photos at optical quality.

The Pixel 8 has the same updated main camera sensor as the Pixel 8 Pro, but it has a new ultrawide camera sensor that enables Macro Focus for the first time on a Pixel phone.

Both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro also have a new front-facing camera sensor with autofocus for the best selfies on a Pixel phone.

Google Tensor G3

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are powered by the new Google Tensor G3 chip, which is Google’s third-generation custom-designed chip for smartphones. The Google Tensor G3 chip is faster and more efficient than the Google Tensor G2 chip, and it enables a number of new AI-powered features on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, such as:

  • Video Boost: Pairs Tensor G3 with Google’s powerful data centers to apply cutting-edge processing to your videos, adjusting color, lighting, stabilization and graininess.
  • Improved Call Screen: Now helps you receive 50% fewer spam calls on average.

Other features

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro also feature a number of other new features and improvements, such as:

  • Summarize: Generates a summary of a webpage, so you can quickly understand the key points.
  • Read aloud and translate webpages: Your Pixel can even read aloud and translate webpages for you so you can listen to articles on the go.
  • Improved voice recognition: Pixel is even better at understanding the nuances of human speech, so you can talk to it more naturally to get things done.
  • 7 years of software updates: Google is providing 7 years of software support for Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, including OS upgrades, security updates and regular Feature Drops.

Pricing and availability

The Pixel 8 starts at $699 and the Pixel 8 Pro starts at $999. Both phones are available for pre-order today and will be released on October 12.
