In a significant stride into the realm of electric vehicles (EVs), Xiaomi, the well-known Chinese smartphone giant, is making waves with the introduction of its highly anticipated electric car, the SU7 (Speed Ultra). This momentous reveal occurred during an exclusive EV technology launch event held in Beijing, China.

The EV market is currently witnessing a surge in popularity, boasting standout models for 2023 such as the Mahindra XUV400, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, BYD Atto 3, and Audi e-tron GT.

Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, has set ambitious goals for the company, aiming to secure a spot among the world’s top 5 automakers over the next 15 to 20 years, thereby contributing significantly to the growth of China’s automotive industry.

The SU7 sedan, poised to be integrated with Xiaomi’s popular smartphones, is set to be equipped with batteries sourced from prominent Chinese market leaders, including Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. and BYD Co. This choice of battery depends on whether customers opt for a single or dual motor configuration.

Shifting our focus to the electric vehicle landscape in India, Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest automaker, is gearing up to introduce its inaugural electric car, the Maruti Suzuki eVX, in 2024. Following the unveiling of a concept vehicle at Auto Expo 2023, the company is currently in the testing phase.

The Maruti Suzuki eVX is projected to feature a robust 60 kWh battery pack, promising an impressive claimed range of up to 550 km on a single charge. Its introduction aims to make a substantial impact on the burgeoning Indian EV market.

Additionally, Tata Motors is preparing to introduce an electric variant of its premium model, the Harrier. This electric version will be built on the Gen 2 EV architecture unveiled at Auto Expo 2023. Although specific details are somewhat limited at the moment, the electric Harrier is expected to offer premium features and an extended range, further enriching the array of electric vehicle choices available in the market.
