The Data Protection Board of India
A digital-first body that receives complaints and breach reports, holds inquiries, can direct urgent remedial measures and impose penalties after a hearing. Appeals go to the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT), generally within 60 days.

Voluntary undertaking (Section 32)
A fiduciary can offer a voluntary undertaking at any stage; if accepted, proceedings on that matter can be closed.

Keep the notice versions, consent logs, risk assessments, vendor contracts, breach register and training records ready in one folder.
Penalties scale with the type of failure, so prioritise security and breach readiness first.
